Panopticlown
An experimental piece presenting an interpretation of the role of being witnessed in our lives. Presenting both the joy of experiencing a shared dream, and the oppression of being witnessed by imbalanced power structures, the dark and confronting nature of the performance was designed to give audiences a discordant, eerie feeling, and leave them questioning the deeper themes of the act.
With a cyclical structure, the foreboding image of the 5 trapezes is reminiscent of prison bars. A single stack of chairs in the middle gives the performer a view of all the other artists. Through the various characters shared hopes and dreams we see one person break free of the expected, only to view the others as strange and non-sensical. Her ideas start to spread... for better or worse?
